Is it legal to send the bill for my step dads funeral to his absent children?

Question: The children have little contact with him and the relationship is non existant. My sister and I feel that they should be responsible for the funeral bill despite this. Can we legally make them pay for it?
Answers: Is there a will? Is his wife deceased? Usually next of kin is responsible for things like this unless the deceased names someone else in as the executor/executrix of their estate. You most certainly need to contact an attorney.
No you cannot legally force them to do it.
call a lawyer and ask..send them a copy of the bill at least. im sure they couldnt be bothered, but maybe they will feel like crap
The person(s) who signed the contract with the funeral parlor for goods & services is legally responsible for paying the bill.

The relationship was probably non-existant for a reason. But if you want to extend the olive branch to these step-siblings, you might drop them a note and let them know how the funeral was. Perhaps they will offer to assist with the bill. But don't ask them and you certainly can't make them.
