I think you're asking the wrong people. Aske him what he means by taking a break. Maybe he wants the freedom to be with other women or maybe he just doesnt want a lot of phone calls and hanging around the house waiting for you to call. Find out what he means and enjoy the summer.

Yes, I guess that's exactly what he means. A break is a break. No letters, phone calls or emails until a specified date. See other people and do with them whatever you both want. He will do the same. Maybe he will realise how lucky he is to have you, and maybe, well, things sometimes go the other way. If you and your present boyfriend still want to be together when the break is over, then you probably do really love one another.

Sounds like it means he doesn't want to be faithful to you while you are gone so he wants to take a break as in break up so he can see other people. Therefore you are free to do the same.
