What are a bridesmaid's primary responsibilities?
Question: I will be a bridesmaid in a good friend's wedding in the Fall and am curious what to expect. I live in the same area as the couple and the wedding. Thanks!
Answers: Emily Post's book Wedding Etiquette ...
Assuming that the maid of honor is able to take care of her responsibilities, the main chares to the bridesmaids are to help the maid of honor in any way they can and to take care of their dress and accessories fittings. They may help with a shower for the bride, although this is totally optional, and may look after the flower girl and ring bearer before and during the ceremony. Other duties they might perform include the following :
The Bridesmaids: Duties Checklist
Attend as many prenuptial events as possible
Possibly host or co-host a party or shower (not mandatory)
Assist bride with errands
Contribute to bridesmaids' gift to the bride; ususally give an individual gift to the couple
Are expected to attend the rehearsal and are included at the rehearsal dinner
Arrive at dressing site promptly
Walk in processional and recessional
Possibly participate in receiving line
Dance with ushers and single male guests
Help gather guests for the first dance, cake cutting, and bouquet toss; participate in bouquet toss, if single
Look after couple's elderly relatives or friends
Pay for their dresses and transportation to the wedding
i would say to be there for the bride
To help her out with whatever she needs.
To throw a great party with chipindales!
To be hit on by every single guy at the wedding...
plan the party, keep the bride calm, assist where needed.
To make the grooms life as hard as possible up till the day of the wedding!!!!!!!
Help the bride with whatever she needs and suck up to her and tell her she is beautiful.
Being there for there for the bride is a given, but there are other responsibilities, too. You buy your dress and get it altered. You buy shoes and have them dyed. You'll need to get your nails (and possibly hair and makeup) done the day of the wedding. Throw her a great bachelorette party! Also, who is paying for the shower? In the weddings I've been in, we've always split the cost among the bridesmaids. If there's an engagement party, you'll have to buy a gift for that...as well as gifts for the shower and wedding. When it all comes down to it, I generally spend $1000 per wedding I'm in. Don't panic. It will all come back to you some day. :) Just start saving some money each week.
if you are the bridemaid then your job is to help the bride. Talk to the maid (matron) of honor and ask where you can help out. Offer your assistance in anyway to the bride, also. Don't complain about your dress (the color or style of it), who you have to walk with, or who you have to dance with. Things like this will really add more ontop of an already stressed bride.
to have sex with the groom
You are just supposed to be there for her. You might have to go with her to get her dress or try it on. She might ask for your opinion on things. Try to make it as easy and less stressful as possible. Other than that, you are there for support and because she loves you and wants YOU to be the person that stands beside her as she's getting married.
